Locally sourced spruce, leather offcuts from closed down shoe factory

Capital Clouds, Labour Clouds was made during a stay at the Nordic Artist Center in Dale Norway. The wooden panels were made using materials from the forest surrounding the arts center and the leather pieces glued on top were remnants from a closed down local shoe factory. In one of its stages throughout a long battle to keep open a labour intensive production in a high labour cost country like Norway, the factory was named Clouds of Norway. After rounds of closing and opening back up again in 2011 the shoe factory closed for good and the Nordic Arts Center located in the same town on the Norwegian west coast took over materials and machines from their production, making it available for visiting artists to repurpose for their projects.
